ABOUT OUR Group
GLOTTA is an interdisciplinary research group within the School of Languages at the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS). The group regards teaching as one of the fundamental pillars of teacher education. Its members seek to ensure that research in the disciplinary fields of linguistics, literature, and languages enriches and informs pedagogical reflection in the preparation of teachers across northeastern Colombia.
GLOTTA began its academic activities in late 2009 and includes student research groups led by specialists in language teaching, discourse and image analysis, literature, cultural studies, and translation. The group has also launched community outreach initiatives through the UIS Library and public schools that partner with the School of Languages for teaching practicum placements.

RESEARCH Lines
Reading and Writing Pedagogy
This research line investigates issues related to the teaching and learning of reading and writing from sociocultural, psychocognitive, and ideological perspectives. Its studies, grounded in ethnographic research approaches, contribute to strengthening teacher education and developing pedagogical proposals for diverse educational contexts.
Foreign Language Pedagogy
This research line focuses on the teaching, learning, and acquisition of foreign languages. It conducts research on the methods, approaches, and practices that underpin these processes. Its contributions strengthen teacher education, support the development of educational policies and initiatives, and promote the quality of language education across diverse educational contexts.
Literary Studies and Literature Pedagogy
This research line investigates literature and its teaching through the analysis, interpretation, and appreciation of literary works. Its contributions advance literary studies, literature pedagogy, and critical reflection on literary education and mediation processes.
Language, Discourse, and Society
This research line explores the relationships among language, discourse, and society. Drawing on the recontextualization of linguistic, discourse, and sociocultural theories, its studies seek to understand how the social imaginaries that shape educational practices and social dynamics are constructed. This approach fosters critical reflection on language teaching and other systems of meaning.
Translation and Cultural Studies
Drawing on the dialogue among cultural studies, translation, and interpreting, this research line investigates the processes of mediation between languages and cultures. Its contributions strengthen academic education, knowledge production, and critical reflection on translation as a cultural practice.
