ABOUT OUR Group
The Hydrocarbon Process Modeling Research Group (GMPH) promotes the generation of knowledge and the development of innovative solutions to the challenges faced by the energy industry through applied research, computational modeling, numerical simulation, experimentation, and technological development.
Its members actively participate in research and knowledge transfer projects carried out in collaboration with government agencies and companies in the energy sector.

The group promotes the comprehensive development of students and researchers by strengthening their scientific and technical competencies through participation in high-impact projects, scientific publications, national and international academic events, and innovation activities. It also contributes to the development of initiatives related to conventional and unconventional hydrocarbons, as well as emerging technologies associated with the energy transition, including natural hydrogen, geothermal energy, carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), and sustainable energy solutions.
GMPH provides a space for learning, research, and professional growth for those seeking to contribute to the scientific and technological advancement of the energy sector through an interdisciplinary, innovative, and future-oriented approach.

RESEARCH Lines
Description, Evaluation, and Integration of Core Samples
This research line focuses on the development of integrated studies of core samples through geological description and petrophysical, sedimentological, and geomechanical characterization, aimed at improving reservoir understanding and supporting decision-making in exploration and production activities.
Unconventional Reservoirs
This research line focuses on the development of methodologies for the evaluation, characterization, and utilization of unconventional resources, including shale gas, shale oil, tight reservoirs, gas hydrates, and other low-permeability accumulations, considering geological, petrophysical, and engineering aspects.
Reservoir Characterization
This research line integrates geological, petrophysical, dynamic, and production data to develop representative subsurface models that enable reserve estimation, improve understanding of fluid behavior, and optimize field development.
Production Optimization
This research line focuses on the application of engineering tools, simulation techniques, and data analytics to improve operational efficiency, enhance hydrocarbon recovery, and maximize the technical and economic performance of production systems. desempeño técnico y económico de los sistemas de producción.
Flow Assurance
This research line focuses on the study of phenomena that affect the safe and efficient transport of fluids in wells, flowlines, and production systems, including multiphase flow, solid deposition, corrosion, hydrate formation, and mitigation strategies.
Offshore Operations
This research line focuses on the development of research aimed at the design, analysis, and optimization of offshore exploration and production systems, considering technical, operational, environmental, and infrastructure integrity aspects in marine environments.
High-Resolution Sedimentological and Lithostratigraphic Characterization of Geological Samples
This research line focuses on the detailed analysis of geological samples using sedimentological, stratigraphic, and ichnological techniques to reconstruct depositional environments, understand reservoir heterogeneity, and strengthen basin and reservoir geological models.
Integrated Analysis of Sedimentary Basins
This research line focuses on the study of the geological evolution of sedimentary basins through the integration of stratigraphic, structural, sedimentological, geochemical, and geophysical data for exploration purposes, petroleum system assessment, and the utilization of energy resources.
