ABOUT OUR Group
The Structural Chemistry Research Group (GIQUE) conducts research, teaching, and outreach activities, providing services to public and private institutions. Its research encompasses structural studies of materials; qualitative and quantitative analysis of single-crystal and polycrystalline samples using X-ray diffraction; and the synthesis, characterization, and development of new materials for a variety of industrial applications.

RESEARCH Lines
Structural Chemistry
Determination of the crystal structures of organic, inorganic, and organometallic compounds by X-ray diffraction using polycrystalline and single-crystal samples. Synthesis of metal–organic frameworks, multicomponent crystals, and hybrid compounds containing active pharmaceutical ingredients. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of clay minerals and their use in various areas of technological development.
Inorganic Synthesis
Development and preparation of inorganic materials with potential applications in heterogeneous catalysis.
Organic and Organometallic Synthesis
Preparation of novel compounds with potential pharmaceutical activity for use in the development of medical formulations.
Materials Recycling and Synthesis
Preparation of materials, coatings, and catalysts using waste materials as raw materials or as sources of organic or inorganic precursors, applying circular economy principles.
Synthesis and Characterization of Coordination Compounds
Synthesis and structural characterization of new organic and organometallic materials with potential applications in medicinal chemistry and materials science.
Synthesis and Fabrication of New Materials
Research on the synthesis and fabrication of materials for industrial applications in the fields of medicine, mining, energy, and the environment.

IDENTIFICATION OF CRYSTALLINE PHASES BY
X-Ray Diffraction (XRD)
Determination of the crystalline phases present in a sample by XRD analysis.
Modalities: general sample; BULK with interlayer displacement test (addition of ethylene glycol to verify expandable material); BULK with decantation (normal, with ethylene glycol, or calcined at 550 °C); with grazing incidence; with specifications defined by the client.
IDENTIFICATION OF POLYMORPHISM IN
Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) by XRD
Identification of polymorphic forms in tablets, APIs, and finished or semi-finished products, including comparative analysis by overlaying diffraction patterns.
Modalities: with or without data recording; specialized consulting in patent infringement cases; comparative analysis between APIs and finished products.
QUANTITATIVE ELEMENTAL ANALYSIS BY
X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF)
Quantitative determination of elements present in a sample using wavelength-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (WDXRF).
Modalities: combustible samples; mineral and inorganic samples (Na–U range); metallic samples (Na–U range); specific quantification of SiO₂ and Al₂O₃ in mineral active pharmaceutical ingredients, diosmectite powder for oral suspension, and finished products.
SINGLE-CRYSTAL
Crystallography
Data collection and crystal structure solution/refinement of single-crystal samples.
Modalities: data collection only; data collection + complete structure solution and refinement.
CONSULTING IN
Research
- Consulting on research topics related to organic, inorganic, and organometallic synthesis.
- Consulting on research topics related to the synthesis, fabrication, and recycling of new materials.
