Historical Studies in Social Networks (ESHIRES)

The Historical Studies in Social Networks (ESHIRES) Research Group was established in 2015 within the School of History of the Faculty of Human Sciences at the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS). Since then, it has evolved through the incorporation of new faculty members into the research group. In response to emerging historiographical trends and methodological developments in the Social Sciences, the group seeks to advance the study of history through approaches, techniques, and methods that emphasize networks in history, connections and human mobility, relations among countries, and global history. The group is also interested in promoting the dissemination of historical discourse from the perspectives of public history.

Faculty members and students have participated in several research projects developed by the group, including Colombian Military Caudillos of the Second Generation, 1853–1902 (carried out jointly with the PSORHE and GIHENC research groups, also affiliated with the School of History), Certainties and Uncertainties of Mining in Vetas and California: An Economic and Social History, and Esoteric Sociabilities in Colombian Freemasonry: The Case of the Bucaramanga Lodges in the Twentieth Century. All of these projects were funded by the UIS Office of the Vice Rector for Research and Extension. In addition, undergraduate and graduate research projects have been developed by students affiliated with the group.
